Camping Chrisman style

Ah the joys of camping. That feeling of
communing with nature: sleeping on the ground the way our ancestors did,
foregoing the comforts of home for a truly authentic – if somewhat bruising –
experience in the countryside.
Hmm. You obviously haven't met Chris "Chrisman" Sturgeon yet, then.
Chrisman has come a long way since the time when he managed to produce a full
dinner suit from his tent with no advance warning to use in a wide game.
Nowadays Upcote camp is a veritable home away from home for Chrisman, and for
those lucky enough to be invited to a pub lunch in his castle (I'm still
sulking coz he didn't invite me).
This year Chrisman decked his tent in lights – until he needed to use them for
the marquee, at which point he switched to bunting. Music blared from his sound
system and he landscaped his palatial
grounds
and
opened the garden to the public – for a modest charge, of course.
The music provoked a certain amount of grumbling from at least one camp chief
who said she'd come to Upcote to get away from all that noise. I couldn't, of
course, reveal who made those comments, as a good journalist always protects her
sources.
Anyway, since the camp, Chrisman has celebrated his 50th birthday, so we'll be
expecting much more maturity from him next year!
