Cheltenham and Gloucester Woodcraft Folk camp
every year at Upcote Farm. But this year it's different.
Since we camped here last year, more than 10 million children have died because
of extreme poverty. Each day that we're at camp, another 30,000 die. They die
because their nations are burdened by debt, because the world isn't giving them
the aid they need, and because the rich world exploits poor producers and
doesn't pay them a fair rate for what they grow or manufacture.
Together with our friends from Hungary and Romania, we are aiming to make
a difference, aiming to Make Poverty History. That's why we're all wearing white
bands and why we're looking at the issues around extreme poverty, particularly
through the opening ceremony and the
wide game, as well as through the message we take
back to our friends, our communities and our politicians after the camp.
